Important!!!

In 2000, the Harley-Davidson Motor Factory made a design change to the 883cc & 1200cc Sportster Crankcase and Timing Gear Cover. The crankcase and cover were redesigned to incorporate oil galleys that transfer more oil to the lifter block area. In turn, this redesign generated the requirement for a new gasket to seal the galleys between the crankcase and cover.

Carefully inspect the cover and crankcase after removal. If the crankcase and cover include the galleys depicted in the drawing of P/N JGI-25263-00-X, then this gasket must be used. Proper gasket selection and installation is the respon- sibility of the installer. Installation of the incorrect gasket may result in engine damage.
