INSTRUCTIONS

JGI-17386-99 & JGI-16719-99; Twin Cam Rocker Cover Gaskets Upper (Cover) & Lower (Base)

The gaskets in this kit are designed to provide an improved seal, better torque retention, and superior durability while retaining the torque specifications provided by the Original Equipment Manufacturer. Unless otherwise speci- fied, use the torque sequence and value specified in the Factory Service Manual for your model motorcycle. After disassembly, be sure to clean away any dry thread-locking compound from the bolts and thread holes. Failure to clean away the old threadlocking compound can result in inaccurate torque readings and subsequent leaking. Apply fresh thread-locking compound to the first few threads of each bolt prior to assembly. James Gaskets recom- mends LOCTITE® #242.

CAUTION! The gaskets in this package must be installed per the instructions shown below. The installation instructions shown below may differ from those published in the factory service manual for your model motorcycle. Failure to use the sequence and values shown in the instructions below may cause leaking or damage to the primary cover and/or inspection cover. 1. Prior to installation, the screw holes must be cleaned of any old thread-locking compound. Failure to clean threads may lead to thread damage and/or leaking. 2. Apply one or two drops of thread locking compound to the first few threads of each cap screw. (James Gaskets recommends LOCTITE® #242) 3. Insert gasket into boss, followed by the cover, and install each cap screw finger-tight.

4. In the sequence shown, tighten each cap screw to 25-40 in.lbs. (2.8-4.5 Nm) 5. Following the same sequence, tighten each cap screw to 50-70 in.lbs. (5.6-7.9 Nm)
